dc.description.abstractThis paper describes the development of a Grasshopper-based planning support tool for urban planning. The tool aims at the analysis of demand in educational facilities and the optimization of their location and capacities. It was developed for the use case of Berlin using only publicly available resources and data sets. Through preprocessed GIS- and statistical data plus an easy-access interface, the tool encourages people from different backgrounds and even those with no professional knowledge in planning, to engage in urban decision making. Although being initially aimed at contributing to a moderated participation process, the tool's simple GUI (graphical user interface) and open source backend, make it usable in any setup - without a briefed advisor or the need for later professional evaluation by another party.en
