dc.description.abstract	Nachhaltigkeitsforschung steht aufgrund ihrer Problemorientierung und ihres Bezugs zum politischen Konzept der nachhaltigen Entwicklung vor methodischen Herausforderungen. Es gibt keine umfassende Methode oder Theorie der Nachhaltigkeitsforschung. Ist sie damit Wissensproduktion nach dem Motto anything goes oder befindet sie sich auf dem Weg zu einer theoretisch und methodisch einheitlich verfaßten, neuen Wissenschaftsdisziplin? Weder – noch. Auch wenn der Nachhaltigkeitsforschung eine spezifische Methodik fehlt – vielleicht aus immanenten Gründen fehlen muß –, darf sie auf Qualitätssicherung nicht verzichten. Drei Projekte zeigen, daß gerade in der Nachhaltigkeitsforschung die Methodenreflexion und die transparente Darstellung der Forschungsverfahren entscheidend zur Qualitätssicherung beitragen können.	de
dc.description.abstract	Sustainability research faces special methodological problems that go back to its orientation towards "real world problems" and the political concept of sustainable development. It is research that is normative, integrative and participative. This creates tensions with conventional methods of disciplinary science. Yet, a specific method of sustainability research has not been established. Is sustainability research then guided by the motto of anything goes? Or is it in the process of becoming a new discipline? This paper examines these questions by looking at the practice of sustainability research in three different projects. A comparison along the methodological problems of normativity, integration and participation yields a variety of approaches to address these problems in specific project contexts. To impose a rigid application of operational standards on sustainability research would mean to ignore the merits of contextualization. However, we argue that procedural criteria such as reflection on methodological problems and transparent documentation of the ways in which they are dealt with are important to sustainability research. For systematic consideration a set of questions is proposed that can be used for the (self-)evaluation of sustainability research.	en
