dc.description.abstractDas Ehepaar Hedwig (1872-1945) und Albert Ullmann (1862-1912) begann in den 1890er Jahren in Frankfurt am Main mit dem Sammeln von Kunst. Innerhalb von rund 30 Jahren trug das Paar bzw. ab 1912 die Witwe eine mehrere hundert Objekte umfassende Sammlung Alter Kunst zusammen, zumeist Gemälde des 19. Jahrhunderts, mittelalterliche Skulpturen, Renaissance-Silberschmiedearbeiten und (Höchster) Porzellan. Die hauptsächliche Ankaufsquelle bildete hierbei der Frankfurter Kunstmarkt. Die vorliegende Arbeit betrachtet die Entstehung und Entwicklung der Privatsammlung und parallel dazu den Frankfurter Kunstmarkt. Dabei werden die für die Sammlung Ullmann wichtigsten und einflussreichsten Kunst- und Antiquitätenhandlungen vorgestellt. Besonders die Auswirkung des Ersten Weltkriegs auf die Sammlung wie auf den Frankfurter Kunstmarkt wird herausgearbeitet.de
dc.description.abstractThe couple Hedwig (1872-1945) and Albert Ullmann (1862-1912) started their art collection in the 1890s in Frankfurt am Main. Within around 30 years, the couple, or from 1912 the widow, amassed a collection of old art comprising several hundred objects, mostly 19th-century paintings, medieval sculptures, Renaissance silversmiths' works and (Höchst) porcelain. The main source of purchases was the Frankfurt art market. This study examines the origins and development of the private collection and, in parallel, the Frankfurt art market for old art. The most important and influential art and antique dealers for the development of the Ullmann Collection are presented. In particular, the impact of the First World War on the collection and the Frankfurt art market is highlighted.en
