entsteht das PECS-Planungskonzept (Participatory Engineering of Clinical Systems).
The aim of this thesis is to develop an improved approach for planning and designing
complex work systems. Requirements for the planning and the design process are derived
from an exemplary analysis of clinical work systems. They are organized according
to the principles of ergonomic work system design. The basis for developing a holistic
process model is formed by a systematic investigation of existing planning approaches
from different disciplines and the assessment of transferrable findings. The
development of the new process model is based on the problem solving cycle of the
"systems engineering" approach and an on-going evaluation by an interdisciplinary
planning team. The first part of the results is a general process model for planning and
designing complex work systems. It consists of ten planning principles and a reference
model for a planning process. This general process model is applied to the clinical work
system and concretized to form the PECS planning approach (Participatory Engineering
of Clinical Systems). It is divided into three modules, 1. the PECS structure model,
2. the PECS planning process and 3. the PECS toolbox. An interdisciplinary team of 76
planning experts evaluated the usability of the three developed PECS modules using a
validated questionnaire. The results provide new aspects for transferring the process
model to other structural elements of complex systems. Apart from the design of environmental
structures advanced fields for research are identified as well.
