This thesis focuses on soliton spheres, i.e., branched conformal immersion of $CP^1$ into the field of quaternions that are quotients of holomorphic sections of a linear system with equality in the quaternionic Plücker estimate.
It is shown that the Taimanov soliton spheres are soliton spheres in the sense of this thesis. It is shown that the Willmore energy of immersed soliton spheres in $R^3$ is of the form $4pi n$ for some $nin{1,4,6,7,8,9,10,11,ldots}$. An algebraic construction (twistor projection and Bäcklund transformation) for all Willmore spheres in $R^4$ from four polynomials is described, and the condition on the polynomials that correspond to Willmore spheres in $R^3$ is given.
Finally, it is shown that a countable subset of the CMC-1 catenoid cousins has smooth ends, and that these surfaces are Taimanov soliton spheres. For this the description of Robert Bryants construction of CMC-1 surfaces as Darboux transformation of the round sphere is important.
